Finally getting our Show Notes newsletter out the door!
If you have been listening in on our weekly podcast, you know that we try to include relevant links in the description for each episode, which may or may not be easy to get to in your podcast software. If you’re using an application on a phone or tablet you may not have easy access to the episode description, and we only have limited space to add links and details to this one-way communication path.
By adding show notes to a newsletter, you can receive show updates in your inbox via email, or visit the Show Notes pages on Substack (or maybe, if the planets align, we’ll sync up a website, podcast publishing, notes, articles, links, drop-in audio shows, and all sorts of other fun!).

Visit our Anchor page for all episodes from our very first show right up to Today.
Getting Out of the Way on Anchor
We typically record the weekly episode on Sunday at 11am MST (that’s Arizona time, and Arizona does not observe Daylight Saving Time changes… we could also say 6pm UTC if you like). This can change if we have a guest with a different schedule.
As we have mentioned in a few episodes, we are always interested in guests joining in, and we are also exploring drop-in audio shows with our listeners, via Telegram or similar (cross-platform, free, and privacy-aware tools preferred!).
Going Maskless
We talked about the new CDC guidance concerning masks for fully vaccinated people indoors and outdoors. Dan lives in Las Vegas, which is most definitely going to take advantage of such changes to make back some of the money normally poured over the entire area thaks to tourism. As Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman suggested on CNN last year, we can be the grand experiment… you can check that out on CNN with video:
Mayor Carolyn Goodman with Anderson Cooper
That was then, now that there are effective vaccine options available broadly across the US, the picture is slightly different. Will people tossing their masks and showing up to party be fully vaccinated?
CDC on relaxing mitigation measures
Nancy and Dan basically agree on Dr Fauci… maybe he should hand over the microphone to someone who can stay on message and be consistent and transparent? Same goes for the CDC. Let’s educate, not pontificate, or the internets will fill in the gaps!
As always, we get our own weekly updates on the state of affairs from Dr Daniel Griffin via This Week in Virology, a great channel (Microbe.tv) with some excellent, educated experts talking about science and research and what’s going on. This week’s update from Dr Griffin:
CasaNunzia
As this project comes toghether we’ll no doubt create appropriate media to talk about and share what is happening, but for today we did talk about some of the things we’re hoping to accomplish with this undertaking (mostly for new listeners, and now for new Newsletter Subscribers!).
There are some photographs and some anecdotes that illustrate the need for some changes in the way assitive technologies (and services, and other things, some not yet thought of) are developed and refined. We propose co-creation and will drive that as part of the effort.
What happens when a “cool product” is developed for a group of customers/users without asking them what they actually need and whether the cool product will meet those needs? Here’s a great example, and it’s an example of what can be avoided with some planning and communication… from The Outline:
When Disability Tech is Just a Marketing Exercise
Stay tuned as we get our founding board members and filings and other documentation and process up and running, and be a part of making life better!
Support the Show!
The main reason we’re producing the HugoFloss podcast is to share conversations with others, and to hopefully invite others to participate. We’ve all learned a lot over the adventure that was 2020, there are more and more ways to have discussions that are not Facebook, why not put these two notions together?
Nancy and Dan each have their various projects, some to actually make money, so while there will be “plugs” and other mentions and links to those things (CasaNunzia will pursue 501(c)(3) charity determination, by the way), the goal of the HugoFloss platform is to share ideas and discuss topics…
That said, if you would like to participate, consider these:
Email Nancy with questions, comments, or complaints, or if you’d like to be a guest on this show, or her other show, Home Design Chat with Nancy.
Email Dan with questions, comments, or complaints, or if you’d like to be on any of his other podcasts or… well, the list is getting longer, stay tuned!
If you would like to supply either or both of your show hosts with a coffee…
You can also share this newsletter, links to podcast episodes, or generally talk about what we’re up to, whether it’s this show or the things we talk about in each episode… bigger things than some audio files in the making, to be sure!
Thank you for reading, subscribing, listening, sharing, liking, re-sharing, and generally doing cool things that you would like to talk about…
